Our inside building project is drawing to a close. We have to wait for some more iron to finish the roof of our lounge and soon the windows and door will arrive. We would have been very miserable without this blue tarp as we had a couple of wet days with almost 44mm of rain. Also if you have ever been to North Queensland in summer you may well be aware of the insects that invade every home no matter how well screened it may be. We have fond memories of eating meals with John's parents at night with all the lights off as there were no screens on their home and some nights it was like there were plagues of insects. Hence the little bit of shade cloth on the outside of the tarp to stop insects coming over the to be built eaves....
Ceiling is now in place and the walls formed for the sliding door to fit...fingers crossed.....
Another day and we now start to put the wall insulation in before the sheeting up of the outside of our shed Studio. A small tin shed could become and oven in summer and so we have put the time and money in to put insulation in the roof and walls. And if is that is not enough we have an air conditioner...
This is the first sheet for sheeting up the outside as you can see. We are using old iron from around that has come off either the roof or another shed so as to give the look from the road that give people the impression that "there is not much down there. Only an old shed"...
This photo was just snapped to show that we can now have a cooked lunch on the job and not have to wait until some very late time when we used to travel back to Carmila in the dark.....
Windows and door arrive in time for the rain to start pelting down for 2 days...
We can't wait! More showers are forecast but we want to try putting in our first window. John has put them all in many times throughout the night in his head and so it should be a piece of cake. The bathroom window from the inside...
From the outside....
Our bedroom window next a little bigger but no problems....
Meanwhile the outside is still being sheeted at every opportunity. We had a few leaks with the rain and so we are trying to get the studio as water proof as possible before the next rain This wall was one of the most difficult because of all the plumbing.....
As the two windows had went in so well we confidently put in the front door. How happy are we a front door at last! But alas no key so we had to ring up the window people and find what had happened to our keys. Thankfully they found them and we had a courier deliver them to us. This means we can now lock up and both go to town together. John has not been off the farm from daylight to dark for over 5 weeks as we had too much here that may have disappeared....
Cleaned up and looking pretty wonderful to us. It's amazing what can bring us pleasure these days...
It was a few days later that we finally were able to put in the last two remaining windows and it really feels wonderful to be able to see out again. It was a very unusual feeling to be confined in 4 walls and no view to the outside world not one I would recommend. This is much better....
Just a few of our visitors we have had recently....
A rare sight for us was this amazing fly over of Pelicans just able to catch it with the camera....
Jenelle loves watching Kooka he has a feast most mornings.....
It would not be home with out some flowers and here is the beginning of the white rose and lavender garden in front of the Studio....
Now we are finding with the dark windows. Nature can not see us. It's like being in a big "hide". This fellow was not more than a few metres from us looking at him he could smell us but not see us. Just as well he kept going and didn't feed on the newly planted seedlings....
A delight we have found is finally being able to drive through 5 foot grass we found some Avocados in the Orchard that was planted by John's Mum, Sheila 30 years ago....
While taking the dozer driver around to show him what work we wanted done he identified a Pecan Nut tree which we had no idea was there. Most nuts have disappeared but we found this one to prove he knew what he was talking about.....
No it's not two graves, it is the beginning of the potato patch....
The garden is growing down the slope. Oh! another Colourbond moment!....
A ladder in the back of Chucky gives us some more bounty....
A new toy parked in our front yard waiting for it to be dry enough to work. At least we know he is coming to do the work we think. Watch this space.....
